Many family memories are captured in photographs that eventually over time are abandoned as links with the present generation fade, I have worked with old family photographs and re interpreted them as large scale paintings transforming the everyday to the memorial.
The blanket banner is a tribute to my grandparents war time relationship illustrated with correspondence and referencing consequences and struggles in their post war married years. The use of the blanket as a back clothe to the banner is important for its domestic connotations and symbolic links to the marital bed which over the years bares witness to love, procreation, birth and death.
